The Annual Conference on Cultural Diplomacy in Bucharest
"25 Years since the Fall of the Berlin Wall in Central and Eastern Europe: Looking Back, Looking Forward"
(Bucharest; November 19th - 21st, 2014)
Introduction
The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 served as a historical catalyst that led to a change in the world’s political, economic and cultural landscape. In the tumultuous aftermath, Eastern Europe witnessed the emergence of dozens of states which, in many ways laid part of the foundation of today’s European Union. In addition, these events brought transformation to other parts of the world very far from Europe, including regions as far afield as Africa and Asia, and also laid the groundwork for the globalized, multipolar world that we experience today. The Bucharest Summit on Cross Continental Cooperation was held in the framework of the 25th Anniversary for the Fall of the Berlin Wall. This year’s conference was titled „25 Years Since the Fall of the Berlin Wall in Central and Eastern Europe: Looking Back, Looking Forward„ to emphasize the great changes that took place in the wake of the fall of the Berlin Wall and to symbolize the many political, economic and cultural boundaries that still exist in today’s society.
The summit included large-scale events dedicated to the fields of international relations and peace building, human rights and prosperity, arts and culture. The conference curriculum included a broad range of topics of discussion and also focused on specific areas within the field of Cultural Diplomacy.
