Tom Ferris

Senior Economics Consultant

Tom Ferris is an Economic Consultant specialising in Transport, Regulation & Public Sector Governance. He was Senior Economist in the Department of Transport of the Irish Government the Irish  Dáil Éireann (the Irish Parliament) until February 2006. Since then, he has been undertaking various consultancy projects for the World Bank, the OECD, the Business Regulation Forum, & the High Level Group on Business Regulation.

He is the Treasurer of the European Movement of Ireland and is a former President of the Chartered Institute of Transport (Ireland). Until February 2006, he was the Senior Economist and Head of Public Transport Planning in the Department of Transport, where his responsibilities included the formulation of policy and the provision of transport advice and analysis.

In 2004/2005, he was a Member of the Project Team that prepared the Irish Government’s mega-investment plan for transport (€34 billion), covering the period 2006 to 2016.  He is also a  lecturer in Transport Economics, Public Sector Economics and Better Regulation at University College Cork, at Public Affairs Ireland and the Irish Management Institute.
