The Atlantic Club of Bulgaria and the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy in Berlin are delighted to announce the next event that they will be organizing in Sofia: a keynote speech by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, H.E. Fu Ying. Mrs. Ying’s areas of expertise are foreign affairs, translation and interpretation in Europe, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

Before assuming her current position as vice foreign minister of the People's Republic of China, Fu Ying served as the Chinese ambassador to the United Kingdom between March 2007 to 2009, the Chinese ambassador to Australia between 2004 and 2007, and the Chinese ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines between 1998 and 2000. She also headed the Chinese Delegation during proliferation talks with North Korea that resulted in the latter country’s decision (unfortunately, later reneged on) to abandon their nuclear weapons programme.

Recently, reflecting on the negative press coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olypmics protests, she warned of a possible backlash from China towards the west, claiming that, the "demonisation" of the protests in western media had harmed the image of the west in the eyes of the Chinese population.
Mrs. Ying’s speech “China - EU Relations: Visions for the Future” would take place on March 21st at Sheraton Hotel, Sofia.

The event would be organized with the kind cooperation of the Embassy of China in Bulgaria.
