Biography

The Hon. Robert John Walter was a Conservative Member of Parliament for North Dorset in southwest England until 2015. He first assumed office in 1997. In 2010 he was appointed by Prime Minister David Cameron to head the UK delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

He began his political career as Chairman of the Aston University Conservative Association and went on to be Chairman of Westbury Constituency. He was also Chairman of the Conservative Foreign Affairs Forum from 1986 to 1988 and Chairman of the Conservative Group for Europe (1992-1995).

Before he assumed parliamentary office for North Dorset, he was an international banker. He is a former member of the London Stock Exchange and was a Director of Aubrey G Laston & Co Inc.

He is also a visiting lecturer in East-West Trade at the University of Westminster. The Hon. Robert John Walter has a Bachelor of Science from Aston University. In 2011 he was also awarded an honorary doctorate by Aston University.
