Biography
Born in1973, Juris Jansons graduated from the Latvian University with a Law degree in 2001. He continued his studies here, gaining a Master’s degree in economics and, in 2004, completed his doctoral studies in sociology from the Rīga Stradiņš University in 2006. Previously the chairman for the board of the health insurance company, Rigas slimokase (RSK), Mr. Juris Jansons has served since 2011 as the Ombudsman of the Republic of Latvia, his position lasting until 2016. His nomination required impeccable reputation, knowledge, and hands-on experience in the protection of rights. As Ombudsman, he has called for the legal protection of same-sex couples to equal that of married couples.“Black Box for Provision of Human Rights: Latvian Case”
