The Historical Development of the German-Turkish Community
“German-Turkish Week 2009“ presents…
The Historical Development of the German-Turkish Community
Monday, 8th June (18:00), Amerika Haus Berlin
*Opening Event*
German-Turkish Week 2009 is an event series taking place at the Amerika Haus Berlin that aims to raise awareness amongst the public of the history of the German-Turkish Community and its contributions to German society, while celebrating the richness of German-Turkish culture. All events will take place in German and are free for the general public to attend. No registration is required.
The opening event of German-Turkish Week 2009 will focus on the history and development of the German-Turkish Community. As we reach the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany, and approaching fifty years since the first Turkish guest workers arrived, it is important to look back at the growth and changing shape of the German-Turkish Community over the past five decades. The event will then move to consider the challenges that lie ahead for the Community. The program will include welcome speeches, a panel discussion showcasing a range of different perspectives, a musical reception, and will include traditional Turkish cuisine.
The evening will be brought to a close by a live concert from the band Orientation, who fuse soulful club grooves with arabesque melodies.
