The Annual Conference on Cultural Diplomacy 2018

"Utilizing Cultural Diplomacy to Foster Democracy, Advance International Law and Back Global Human Rights"

(Berlin; December 13th - 16th, 2018)

Conference Overview

The Annual Conference on Cultural Diplomacy is the world's leading event in the field of cultural diplomacy hosted and is organized annually at the end of each year by the Academy for Cultural Diplomacy in partnership with other leading institutions. This year´s conference will take place in New York City (November 2018), Berlin (December 2018) and London (January 2019).

The international community today is being challenged by new forms of social unrest, while at the same time, pre-existing challenges such as extremism, migration, separatist movements, and climate change are rapidly increasing in their magnitude and influence on daily life. These new forms of social unrest, can be found in many States and within many groups and are mainly creating further doubts in and erosion of the seemingly long last structure and stability of society as had existed so far.

The outcome for society is alarming as these phenomena are often so powerful that they weaken governments and institutions and are putting the global order and rule of law into sometimes complete disarray. These current trends and transitions in concepts are posing real and pressing challenges for democracies, global security, the rule of law and human rights and emphasize the growing need for greater global dialogue and cooperation in order to avoid further escalation of these problems and the devolution of societies.

The 2018 Annual Conference on Cultural Diplomacy will therefore focus on raising awareness and support for activities that promote democracy, advance international law, and back global prosperity and human rights. The Annual Conference aims to present successful Cultural Diplomacy practices to try to remedy and to ease these global pressing challenges mentioned above and beyond. The conference will bring together leading politicians, religious leaders, senior academics, celebrated artists and representatives from the business sector and civil society in order to establish new institutions and initiatives that will help with these challenges using the practice of cultural diplomacy together with other practices and means.
