To welcome the new ICD summer interns, Spanish intern Diana Ruiz organized an International Lunch at the ICD House of Arts & Culture on July 18th, 2013. Sangria and juice were provided, and attendees were asked to share a national dish from their country.

All interns eagerly participated in the event, and a delicious array of cultural cuisine was readily available. A few examples of the national delicatessen plates included: Lecsó (Hungary), Tortilla de patata (Spain), Bramborák (Slovakia), Guacamole (Mexico), Welsh Cakes (Wales), and Cmunda (Cezch Republic). The success of the event was evident in the fact that the food quickly disappeared within 30 minutes, although the sangria was gone long before that.

Participants left the ICD House with full bellies, a sense of community, and a better understanding of their new colleagues' countries, thus exemplifying a tangible example of the positive effects of the use of food as a form of Cultural Diplomacy.
