Biography
Specialized in international relations and political science with professional experience and education in France, Belgium and Türkiye, Onur Eryuce is committed to strengthening transborder political, economic, social, and cultural ties between cities and civil society, the European Union, and global institutions.
In 2011, he played a pivotal role in the foundation of Association of Social Democratic Municipalities (SODEM), fostering strategic partnerships among Turkish municipal leaders and their European counterparts. SODEM increased international city-level interactions among urban stakeholders and its 141 member municipalities, representing more than 18 million people in Türkiye. Under Eryuce’s management, SODEM has contributed to European Union-Türkiye collaboration on issues at the municipal level.
In April 2019, Eryuce was appointed as the Counsellor by the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and this decision was unanimously approved by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipal Assembly. Izmir is a major Mediterranean port city with 4.5 million inhabitants and 8,500 years of history. As the Counsellor to the Mayor, Eryuce focuses on the city’s growth, governance and finance by linking it to the global value chain and global cooperation networks.
Throughout his career, Eryuce has achieved to be selected as an Eisenhower Fellow, as a member of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation Regional Young Leaders Network, a member of the Global Diplomacy Lab and the BMW Foundation Responsible Leaders Network.
