A Lecture by H.E. Amb. Kamanga Clementine Shakembo (Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Germany)
"Eco-tourism is a relatively a new concept going back to the early seventies. Additionally, there is a growing understanding of the principle of the conservation of nature and durability by increasing a large portion of the population. Actually eco-tourism is often described as a form of tourism with a high level of motivation, but there is no universal definition of eco-tourism. It is generally considered as a kind of a natural and environmental friendly form of tourism. Because there is no clear and universally accepted definition of eco-tourism, the International Eco-Tourism Society , in 1991, defined eco-tourism as 'responsible travel to the natural areas that concerns the environment and improves the well-being of local people'."
