A Testimonial with Azumi Hosaka

Country: Japan
Organization: Student from the University of Winchester

How did you find out about the ICD and the BIHRC?
From my lecturer at University, he just sent us an e mail about the congress.

What has been your favourite event or presentation so far, and was there any particular reason?
I really enjoyed the panel discussions especially after the different speeches.

How would you evaluate cultural diplomacy in your own country, and is there anything else you would like to reflect on?
Human rights in my country has a very high standard, and I personally never experienced any violation of human rights or anyone around me. We might extend this into other Asian countries because we share a similar culture rather than Europe. So it could be the Japanese way of extending it.

Has the forum changed your view on how you understand human rights at all?
Yes it did because it was the first time for me attending a congress. I have a lot of ideas myself, but I have never really listened to other people especially among other fields, so it was quite interesting.

A Testimonial with Dr. Alan Berman

Country: United States of America
Organization: Research Fellow in Queensland

How is it that you found out about the ICD and the BIHRC?
They contacted me and I just sent a reply that I would like to come.

What has been your favourite event or presentation so far?
I like Mrs. Mihr.  I thought she was very intelligent and seemed to have a wide knowledge horizon. I thought she was one of the best speakers.

How would you evaluate cultural diplomacy in your own country, and is there anything else you would like to reflect on?
A lot of things need to be improved in Australia with prejudice motivated crimes and hate crimes. The education system needs to be extended to include sexual education for example to avoid sexual related prejudice. Also the media needs to improve their broadcasting with better research on what broadcasted topics.

A Testimonial with Victor Melendez

Country: Puerto Rico
Organization: Student of Sociology in Madrid, Spain

How is it that you found out about the ICD and the BIHRC?
I looked on the internet for things on human rights and social rights and I found the page of the ICD.

What has been your favourite event or presentation so far, and was there any particular reason?
I actually enjoyed the Troy Davis lecture. He touched important points even if some of the things he said was quite controversial.

How would you evaluate cultural diplomacy in your own country, and is there anything else you would like to reflect on?
My country is one of the few colonies of the world. We have to work on cultural differences with people from the Dominican Republic as we have many immigrating to Puerto Rico and we have to work on our dependence from the US for starters. I think those are the two big things that need changing.
