Biography

Dalija Orešković: I was born in 1977. in Zagreb, Croatia. I am a law graduate, with 15 years of experience working as a private lawyer. For ten years I worked in one of the most respected law offices whose lawyers, among other things, defended one of the Croatian generals from the Homeland War in The Hague. In 2009., together with my partner, I set up my own law firm. In 2013., I was elected in a public tender that received more than 200 candidacies for the President of the preventive anti-corruption body called the Commission for Resolution of Conflict of Interest.

Strengthening the powers of this body and creating conditions for better results in its work, were among the last conditions that the Republic of Croatia was obliged to fulfill in order to close Chapter 23 in the process of accession to the European Union. I served as president for a five-year term, from 2013. to 2018. It was the first term in which this institution performed its tasks as a permanent, professional and independent state body, so the results in the work were quickly visible.

Among the numerous decisions that have been made against the highest statesmen promoting ethics in the performance of public duties, preserving integrity and impartiality, is the case concerning the First Deputy Prime Minister, who tried to influence the withdrawal of arbitration disputes initiated by Croatia against the Hungarian oil company MOL, one of the co-owners in the Croatian oil company INA. Following the Commission's decision, the Government fell less than a year after taking power, as a result of which early parliamentary elections were called.

After my term in the Commission for Resolution of Conflict of Interest ended, I continued with public engagement, which inevitably led to politics. In 2019. I have founded a new political party and competed in the elections for the European Parliament, then at the end of 2019. I was also a candidate in the presidential elections, all without results.

In 2020. I participated in the parliamentary elections in a coalition of three parties that won a total of three mandates in the Croatian Parliament. I am currently on opposition MP in my first term. I am a member of three parliamentary committees, including the Parliamentary Council for Monitoring the Implementation of the Anti-Corruption Strategy.
