On 26 October, 1994, the governments of Jordan and Israel signed a peace agreement to help stabilise and normalise relations between both states. The agreement is sometimes referred to as the “Wadi Araba Treaty”, and put an end to territorial disputes among both sides. It was seen by many observers as a bridge for Israel to help build peace with Palestine. The historical agreement was signed at Arabah, at the border between Eastern Jordan and Western Israel as President Clinton was on hand for the signing. Clinton was a major actor in the peace process in the Middle East, and strove to help stabilise and secure the region.
