Kofi A. Annan, Former Secretary-General of the UN:
"Sport can play a role in improving the lives of individuals, not only individuals… but whole communities. I am convinced that the time is right to build on that understanding, to encourage governments, development agencies and communities to think how sport can be included more systematically in the plans to help children, particularly those living in the midst of poverty, disease and conflict. People in every nation love sport.
Its values- fitness, fair play, teamwork, the pursuit of excellence- are universal. It can be a powerful force for good in the lives of people devastated by war or poverty- especially children. The International Year of Sport and Physical Education is a reminder to Governments, international organizations and community groups everywhere to draw on the promise of sport to promote human rights, development and peace".
Welcome to Sports as Cultural Diplomacy
In our quest towards developing and achieving a true global community, we still find that polarization and cultural isolation are still prevalent in many areas. Therefore it is essential to find a "language" or cohesive cultural bond which can transcend differences and bring disparate groups together.Sports have the proven reputation as one of the most powerful and effective "common languages" which is spoken fluently regardless of demographic.
SCD’s goal is to market and promote this effective method of dialogue, which we will achieve primarily through education with our international sporting projects and culturally diplomatic endeavors; fostering a greater understanding between communities, cultures and states, and subsequently forging an atmosphere of trust, respect and pluralism.
