The Russian Federation has had to continually evaluate its role in international affairs and its approach to global, regional, and local challenges over the last two decades. As the largest country in the world, bordering thirteen countries and eleven time zones, Russia faces many unique challenges and opportunities as a result of the process of globalisation. Russian in Global Affairs will consider Russia’s strategic priorities today and its goals for the future.

Event Review

On Tuesday, April 28th, on the first day of the Weeklong seminar “Europe meets Russia”, the Amerika Haus Berlin was honoured to host a lecture by the Third Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Berlin, Mr. Dmitri Molchanov, who works in the Foreign Policy Department.

Mr. Molchanov gave an interesting and insightful lecture on the Russian-European relationship from the direct standpoint of the Russian government. After he had outlined his role at the Embassy, Mr. Molchanov continued with a short explanation of Russia’s current priorities in the area of politics foreign relations, focusing in particular on efficiency of government, relations with Europe and the United States, corruption, relations with NATO, and Georgian aggression.

The presentation was followed by a lively and passionate discussion on many of the issues raised during the speech, which gave the audience an opportunity to express their own opinions and talk openly with Mr. Molchanov.
