Mr. Moremi Marwa

Chief Executive Officer, Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, Tanzania

Biography

Moremi Marwa  is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange PLC (DSE). He has fifteen years of broad experience in financial markets and senior management in multiple institutions – including Barclays, Deloitte and Ernst & Young. Moremi serves as a board member in various board of directors and board of trustees. These include: the Tanzania Revenue Authority, Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange PLC, Bank of Africa, University of Dodoma Endowment Fund, Strategis Insurance and Victoria Microfinance PLC. He also chairs the Sub-Committee responsible for markets integration and development for the Committee of SADC Stock Exchanges. Moremi is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), he holds MBA in Finance and B.Com in Accounting both from the University of Dar es Salaam.

Moremi is credited for his leadership in the transformation of the Dar es salaam Stock Exchange from a loss making mutual entity four years ago into a commercially run profit making public limited company which is self-listed in the Stock Exchange. This transformation includes new innovations, strategic positioning (within the enlarged framework of financing economic empowerment and financial inclusion), and efficiency in the electronic infrastructure deployment. Because of these initiatives there has been significant increase in the DSE market capitalisation, its liquidity, the pace of new listings and number of investors. Ultimately this has changed the DSE into a profitable entity, demutualised, run a successful IPO and self-listed – being the third Exchange in Africa to achieve this status out of 26 stock exchanges.
