Biography

Prof. Dr. GH. Vlad Nistor MP is a Romanian historian and Professor of Ancient History and Archaeology in the Faculty of History at the University of Bucharest. In 2004, Dr. Nistor became Dean of this faculty and since 2005, has also been serving as Director General of the Romanian Diplomatic Institute.

Dr. Nistor completed his Bachelor’s in History at the University of Bucharest in 1974. In 1993, he obtained a PhD in History at the same university. Dr. Nistor also holds a Postgraduate Certificate in British Cultural Studies from the University of Warwick. From 1998-2000, Dr. Nistor served as President of the Senate, under the leadership of Dr. Emil Constantinescu, former President of Romania.

Dr. Nistor’s areas of study and research include: Ancient Greece and Rome, British Cultural Studies, and British History. He has many publications to his name, including, Forms of the Exercise of Authority in the Later Roman Empire (1997), Redefining End. City and Empire (2000), History of Ancient Greece and Rome Together (2004), and Culture and Ancient Civilization (2005). Dr. Nistor received the Constantin Giurescu award from the Store History Foundation in 1994, and the Commander of the Order of Dannebrog degree of Denmark in 2000.
