The ICD is proud to announce that Nobel Peace Prize laureate David Trimble, Former First Minister of Northern Ireland and a life peer of the British Conservative Party, will speak to the participants at the forthcoming event “A World Without Walls”. Baron Trimble was awarded his Peace Prize in 1998, together with John Hume, for their efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in Northern Ireland.

Whilst Leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, a position he held from 1995-2005, he was seen as instrumental in ensuring the party’s general acceptance of and support for the 1998 Belfast Agreement, though this did cause a split within the party.

In the power sharing agreement that followed, he held the position of First Minister of Northern Ireland on two occasions until October 2002. He has since become a life peer of the British conservative party and a member of the House of Lords.
