Minister Dr. Remus Pricopie

Biography

Minister Remus Pricopie is the current Minister of Education of Romania. He began his political career in 1996 in the Ministry of Education, where he worked as an expert on Higher Education and Public Relations, in addition to Spokesman, Secretary General, and Adviser to the Minister until 2003. Dr. Pricopie returned to the Ministry in 2007 as the State Secretary for Higher Education and Adviser to the Minister. He further acted as the Intermittent Minister in May 2008.

Dr. Pricopie began his studies at the University of Bucharest where he studied Chemistry and Physics. Following his graduation in 1995, he pursued an MA in International Relations and European Politics at the University of Liege in Belgium. Dr. Pricopie was then granted his PhD Degree in Political Science from the University of Bucharest and the National School of Political Science and Public Administration (NSPSPA) in 2005.

Dr. Pricopie began teaching at the National School of Political Science and Public Administration in 1998, and was appointed Dean in 2005, a position he held until 2012 when he was named Rector of the University of Bucharest.

Dr. Pricopie was Chairman of the Board of the Romanian-US Fulbright Commission from 2009-2012, and is currently the Chairman of the Task Force on Fostering and Building Human Capital (FBHC) of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC). In addition to his active participation in several international committees and councils, Dr. Pricopie is also a member of several professional organizations, including: the Romanian Association for the Club of Rome (ARCOR), the International Association of Universities (IAU), the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES), the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECRE), the International Communication Association (ICA), and the Romanian Association of the Professionals in Public Relations (ARRP).

Honors with which Dr. Pricopie has been awarded include: The Fulbright State Alumni Member of the Month, awarded by the US State Department in 2009; the 10th Anniversary of Black Sea University Network Award in 2008; and the Leaders for the 21st Century Award in 2000.

Dr. Pricopie is the author and co-author of 6 books, editor and co-editor of six volumes, author of 28 scientific articles published in journals, Project Manager in 7 research projects, and a member of the project team in over 12 research grants.
