As the city of Berlin and individuals across the world celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD) will be holding a televised panel discussion of former Heads of State that will look at the current and future generations of global leaders and reflect on the challenges they will face in a world without walls.

"Global Leadership in a World Without Walls: The Challenges Ahead" takes place as part of the ICD event “A World Without Walls: An International Congress on Soft Power, Cultural Diplomacy and Interdependence” (Berlin, 6th – 9th November) and will bring together a panel of renowned former Heads of State for this unique occasion.

The discussion will begin with a keynote address by Mike Kenneth Moore (Former Prime Minister of New Zealand), who will then chair a panel including:
  • Janez Janša (Former Prime Minister of Slovenia),
  • President Emil Constantinescu (Former President of Romania),
  • Radmila Sekarinska (Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia),
  • Annelli Jäätteenmäki (Member of the European Parliament, Former Prime Minister of Finland),
  • Jack McConell (Member of the Scottish Parliament, Former First Minister of Scotland),
  • President Sir James Richard Marie Mancham (Founding President of the Republic of Seychelles)
The panellists will speak from personal experience about the changing nature of international relations over the past two decades before considering the demands that will be placed on future leaders and the difficulties they will be faced with.

The discussion will be followed by a question and answer session with the audience that will provide them with the opportunity to raise issues they feel are important with the panel. The audience will be participants of the ICD program “A World Without Walls: An International Congress on Soft Power, Cultural Diplomacy, and Interdependence”, who will be joined by a select group of ICD Young Leaders.
