Biography

David Soul is a celebrated American actor, best known for his role as Detective Kenneth "Hutch" Hutchinson in the TV series Starsky and Hutch, which aired from 1975-1979. Mr. Soul's career spans forty-five years, during which he has performed as an actor, director, producer, singer/songwriter, concert performer, and social activist.

Mr. Soul attended Augustana College in South Dakota, USA, Universidad de las Américas, A.C. in Mexico City, Mexico, and the University of Minnesota in the United States.

Mr. Soul has appeared on several television programs, including: The Merv Griffin Show, Flipper, Star Trek, Here Come the Brides, Owen Marshall: Counselor at Law, Streets of San Francisco, I Dream of Jeannie, McMillan & Wife, Cannon, Gunsmoke, All in the Family, Salem’s Lot, Casablanca, The Yellow Rose, The Key to Rebecca, and Family Ties.

In addition to his work on television, Mr. Soul has acted in movies such as: Dogpound Shuffle, The Stick-Up, The Hanoi Hilton, Tides of War, and most notably Clint Eastwood’s Magnum Force, a role which resulted in his being cast in the TV series Starsky and Hutch. Mr. Soul also made a cameo appearance in the 2004 movie version of the TV program.

Mr. Soul began seriously focusing on his musical career in the mid-1970s, and has recorded five albums and released one compilation album to date, in addition to holding several number one hits internationally, such as “Don’t Give Up on Us” and “Silver Lady.”

After 27 years in Los Angeles, USA, Mr. Soul moved to Paris in 1994 and then the UK in 1995, where he began his career in theater. Stage productions in which he has appeared include: Catch Me If You Can, The Aspern Papers, Speed-The-Plow, Deathtrap, Anything Goes, The Dead Monkey, Fool for Love, Comic Potential, Jerry Springer - The Opera, Blood Brothers, and Mack and Mabel. Mr. Soul continued to act in television and film in the UK with credits including: Little Britain, Top Gear, Harry Hill, Maestro, Dalziel and Pascoe, Holby City, Agatha Christie’s Poirot, Tabloid, That Deadwood Feeling, and Puritan.


Mr. Soul is a social activist and has continually supported several causes throughout his life, raising awareness on issues such as: the impact of the Vietnam War, the shutdowns in the US steel industry, animal welfare, world hunger, and HIV education.
